Session D will focus primarily on developing high-quality District Comprehensive Improvement Plans (DCIPs) and School Comprehensive Education Plans (SCEPs).

The training will provide representatives from newly identified Focus Districts and/or newly identified Priority/Focus schools with information about the 2016-2017 planning process, including templates, technical assistance opportunities, and review processes.

Anticipated sessions will focus on:

  • Creating effective needs statements based on DTSDE review report findings;
  • Identifying outcome-based SMART goals;
  • Selecting appropriate leading indicators for monitoring progress during the school year;
  • Developing strategic action plans that describe the scope of work to be completed;
  • Using federal funding resources to support identified activities; and
  • Using NYSED feedback to make revisions to submitted plans.

In addition, NYSED staff will use a portion of Day 2 to provide training to staff from eligible Re-Identified Focus Districts who plan to participate in the new Self-Review and/or Peer Review processes.  Additional information about these new review processes will be sent directly to districts based on their eligibility. 

SESSION D AUDIENCE

Newly Identified Districts with two (2) or fewer identified schools can register up to three (3) people per district.  The teams from these districts should consist of the following:

(1) 1-2 district-level staff that will be primarily responsible for a district-level plan

(2) 1-2 school level staff primarily responsible for development of the school-level plan(s), as applicable.

Newly Identified Districts with three (3) or more identified schools may bring teams with more than three people, so that each identified school may be represented.

For Newly Identified Focus Districts, appropriate district-level representatives would include the Superintendent, an Assistant Superintendent, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and/or a Director of Federal Programs. Appropriate school-level representatives would include the Building Principal, an Assistant Principal, and/or a School Leadership Team Coordinator.

Re-identified Focus Districts may bring one (1) district representative and one (1) representative per newly identified school.  Please note, the training in May will be similar to the training Focus Districts received at previous Institutes.

In addition, Re-Identified Focus Districts that are participating in the new Self-Review or Peer-Review processes are permitted to send an additional 1-3 district-level and/or school-level representatives who will be responsible for overseeing the self-review or peer-review process within their district. Please note that these staff will only need to attend training on Day 2 of the Focus District Institute. Additional information will be provided directly to eligible districts by the Title I School and Community Services Office.

  • Cancellation requests must be sent to NYSED by April 25, 2016.
