Defective Roofing Product

Dear Curt:

Would you be able to direct me someone who knows of an expedient way to notify School Districts of a defective roofing product that causes roof failure. The urgency is due to the claims bar date of December 13, 2002. After that date, settlement funds by the manufacturer defendant are no longer available.

Following this message is a summary of the case.

Thank you,

Elizabeth Schuster

SUMMARY-------------------

If you own or maintain a building that was built or re-roofed between 1980 and 1989, and incorporates a steel roof deck, you should be aware of the urgent deadline (December 13, 2002) for filing claims in a nationwide class action settlement. The settlement was approved by the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and provides that Beazer East, Inc., manufacturer of phenolic foam roof insulation ("PFRI") must pay compensation for roof replacement to qualified building owners. Between 1980 and 1989 Beazer PFRI insulation was installed in thousands of office, industrial, commercial and other buildings. PFRI releases sulfonic and formic acids that corrode steel roof decks and components and may result in costly remediation and possible roof failure. A settlement fund is available to compensate persons who file claims prior to the deadline of December 13, 2002. For help in identifying PFRI or filing your claim, call Elizabeth Schuster at the U.S. District Court Appointed Notice Administrator, Toll-Free 1-877-428-PFRI (1-877-428-7374). There is no charge or obligation. Details also at www.pfriclaims.com External Link Icon Image.
