New York State Sees

The New York State Education Department, along with the New York State Board of Regents, the New York State Senate, and New York State Assembly are highlighting the critical role proper vision plays in children’s physical, cognitive and social development, with both the New York State Senate and Assembly passing resolutions proclaiming October 2017 as School Vision Health Month.

All schools in the state are encouraged to partner with local eye care professionals in their area to assist students with obtaining complete eye examinations and eye glasses when needed. Schools are also encouraged to promote eye health and safety during October. Please see New York Center for School Health Vision Resources.external link icon

We would also like to learn about the good work done in your school to keep students healthy, safe and ready to learn regarding vision and other health needs. To enable the Department to understand all that schools are doing, we have set up a collection tool on the New York State Center for School Health.
